The St Denis Family

There was an interesting French-Irish family living almost across the road from our house. Their name was St Dennis, but everyone pronounced it in the French Son-da-nay. The husband was French, and the wife Irish. They had purchased a plot of ground from father out of pasture field and had built a comfortable log and some outbuildings. On the land behind the house, there was a thriving plum orchard.

Last Minute Update

This is just to let you all know some last minute information before you come.

First, Pat and Ron Schulze and Pat's brother Bob Williams will be coming from NYC for the open house Friday, but unable to stay for Saturday. Ellen and Tom Paul will be coming Saturday morning but unable to make Friday night. Carlos Almenar may be coming Saturday with his wife and one child, if he can arrange his flight (he lives in Venezuela). There is also a more remote possibility that Adam Welsh, one of Pat's other children, may come at some point as well.

I also heard this morning from our 2nd cousin Terry Ramey, who is living with her husband and daughter in Alabama. Her brother Ben is in Tennessee. (For those who don't know, Terry and Benny were two Greek orphans that my father's sister Vivienne and her 2nd husband Ben Hall adopted). She is working and regrets terribly not being able to come, but has many photos from the Bagnell side and is going to get me all this material. She also has lots of family stories from Vivienne, whom I think was more communicative about family history than our father was.

Second, it may be fairly hot Friday, and you're all welcome to bring your swim suits to the open house -- especially the kids.

Regarding Saturday's schedule, I've been talking with Bill, Ellen, and Don, and we've come up with a little more of a plan for the day. Other than the evening plans, the schedule is informal and can be changed according to the group's wish once we meet. The evening involves private dining room reservations and so on, so has had to be firm.

The Saturday plan is for breakfast together for all those who wish it. The hotel has some sort of continental breakfast, but there are small casual restaurants that are walking distance as well.

I have reserved a covered pavilion along the river where we can congregate midday and in the early afternoon. I can arrange for a light picnic lunch as well. We thought that since everyone's interested in the family tree and memory book, we would try to capture some of the shared family stories.

At 4:30 we'll convene again in the Delaware Room in the Lambertville Station. We will be able to look at some short videos and slides between 4:30 and 6. At 6 we'll have cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, and at 7:00 we'll have dinner. For those interested, we have a video that tells the story of our native American ancestors and the fur traders of the Hudson's Bay Company, which we can see at the end of the evening.

Sunday is a pretty informal day with breakfast or brunch for those who want to get together, and we can just play it by ear according to everyone's schedules.

You should all have received the driving directions to the barn for the open house Friday, but I'm attaching them again. Any questions, please call me at 610-304-6047. Can't wait to see you all!

Best,

Ann
